It is a colorless, viscous liquid with almost no odor and a slightly sweet taste. Propylene glycol is used as a raw material for unsaturated polyester resins. It is also used as a humectant in cosmetics, toothpaste, and soaps, often combined with glycerol or sorbitol. It is used as a humectant and emollient in hair dyes, as well as an antifreeze.
